Top 8 | Food Apps for Apple Watch

I’ve often mentioned the effect different device have on the market for certain kinds of apps and innovations. The Apple Watch, for example, has inspired a huge amount of interest from the automobile industry, as companies clamber over one another to find a way to integrate new kinds of functionality to their wearable app, allowing you to control just about every aspect of your car from the comfort of your wrist, whether that be locking the doors, arming the alarm, and a whole lot more. I noticed a massive increase in the amount of incredible food and cooking related apps when the iPad was introduced, because it seemed that finally cooks had a proper multi purpose replacement for their cook book, which would allow them to store recipes and make alterations and all kinds, without ending up with a stack of papers that just got increasingly covered in flecks of cake mixture. While I don’t think the Apple Watch will have the same kind of exciting influence, it does make for some interesting developments. Here we take a look at the best food apps for the Apple Watch, including in the kitchen apps and those to find food around you.

8. Boiled Egg Timer (Free)

One thing I’ve noticed with all these updates to cooking apps for the Apple Watch is an emphasis on timers, to make it easier to monitor your cooking of several different things at once, even if you are off meeting guests or whatever. There is one app that looks to take advantage of just that for the Apple Watch, and doesn’t just strip away the other kitchen app functionalities to provide you with timers, it actually just gives you a timer to cook one thing: the boiled egg. As just about anyone can tell you, boiling the perfect egg can be one of the most difficult things in the kitchen, despite the fact that it seems so simple. So whatever your prefernce, this app will let you boil the perfect egg without overwhelming you with other stuff.  – Download from iTunes

7. Kitchen Stories (Free)

The Kitchen Stories is one of the more innovative kitchen apps out there, bringing a new dimension to the idea of finding and collating a list of favorite recipes, then managing your shopping list. With their latest update for the iOS app, much of the functionality is now available with a single tap of your wrist, meaning that you can check on recipes, ingredients, set up grocery lists and a whole lot more. – Download from iTunes

6. OpenTable (Free)

I guess that, despite being an app dedicated to getting you the best table and checking on such things as reservation times, OpenTable can still be classified as a food app, right? Many of the updates you are seeing to well known apps on the App Store to offer Apple Watch support are based around extending the idea of push notifications to your wrist, so that you can see them at a glance and don’t need to fish around for your iPhone or iPad and unlock the screen, or whatever. The OpenTable app brings details of all your latest restaurant reservations to your wrist, meaning that you can see how many people in your party, remind you of the time and of course direct you to the restaurant in question! – Download from iTunes

5. Yummly (Free)

There are recipe apps that let you gather all your favorite recipes and clippings together in one place, and scan in your old ones for safe keeping and easy access. There are also grocery list apps that are designed to make the process of list making and finding items easier than ever. Then there is the Yummly app, which kind of does both. It is one of the most powerful recipe searching services out there, incorporating all of your favorite sites. You can then add your recipes in one place, easily from your wrist, and even note down the groceries you need for later checking or simply order them and receive them one hour later. – Download from iTunes
